Walk off the holiday treats at our annual free community walk to the top of Mt. Helix, the Friday after Thanksgiving. All ages and dogs are welcome, and free coffee and donuts are waiting at the summit. Starts 10 AM at the Fire Station Lot, 10105 Vivera Dr.

Mt. Helix Park transforms into a winter wonderland, free to the public! Shop local vendors at our Christmas Market, take photos with Santa, and enjoy hot chocolate, kids’ crafts, food trucks, live music, and caroling. 3 PM – 8 PM · Free shuttles from Grossmont High School.

The Story of Mt. Helix

Created in 1925 by Mary Carpenter Yawkey’s children in her memory, Mt. Helix Park was designed as a place for the community to gather, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of nature. From its iconic cross and natural amphitheater to its sweeping views of San Diego County, Mt. Helix has remained a beloved destination for generations.

Mt. Helix Park is a treasured gathering place where history, nature, and community come together. The Mt. Helix Park Foundation is a 501(c)(3) California nonprofit public benefit corporation that receives no government funding and is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Park, its historic Amphitheater, and the iconic cross memorial at the summit.

Since 1999, the Foundation has cared for this California Point of Historical Interest through the support of members, donors, and volunteers. Your support helps protect Mt. Helix’s natural beauty, preserve its historic spaces, and ensure this beloved landmark continues to inspire future generations.

Mt. Helix Park is located at 4901 Mt. Helix Drive, La Mesa, CA 91941, in the heart of East San Diego County. Conveniently located near Interstate 8, State Route 94, and State Route 125, the park is just minutes from La Mesa, El Cajon, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Rancho San Diego, Grossmont, Santee, and downtown San Diego.

The iconic Mt. Helix cross is visible from miles away, making the park easy to find. Limited summit parking is available, with additional parking at the Vivera Drive and Mt. Helix Drive entrance. Click here for more parking information.
