Accomplishments

Thanks to community support, we have made great strides since the Mt. Helix Park Foundation was created in 1999, including:

  • Ensuring that the Cross will remain an East County icon and that this beautiful Park will remain open to the public for years to come.

  • Purchasing 3.4 acres adjacent to the Park for nature trails, a permanent restroom, and overflow parking.

  • Completing construction on an attractive entry and exit gate area.

  • Hiring a part-time Executive Director to oversee operations at the Park.

  •  Launch an initial interactive web site at www.mthelixpark.org.

  • Introduction of the heART of Mt. Helix annual gala which generates an average annual income for the Park equivalent to roughly half of the operating budget.

  • Implementation of Nature/Sustainability programs.

  • Incorporating social media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in order to stay connected with an increasingly technological community.

  • Opening the Yawkey Trail, a walking trail, with overlooks, interpretive signage and benches.

  • Restoration of the Amphitheater steps.

  • Construction of office garden area.

  • Restoration of the memorial Cross, lighting and landscape.

  • Upgrade to the electrical system.
