Heteromeles arbutifolia or Toyon (sometimes called Christmas Berry) vary in height, anywhere from a shrub to a small tree ranging between 6 and 20 feet tall. Its contrasting deep-green leaves coupled with clusters of bright red berries are striking. Samples of this evergreen can be found on the right side of the road leading into the Park, just after the staircase and before the Park office.
